If you want to choose your own contactless payment limit for your Mastercard debit card, below the standard £100 limit, you can now do so in your mobile app.
To choose a different limit, simply;
- Open your Mobile Banking app
- Tap on the current account linked to your debit card
- Choose the option ‘Manage my card & Apple Pay / Google Pay’
- Tap ‘Card payment controls’
- Tap ‘Contactless payment limit’
- Here, you can select which limit you would like. You can choose your own limit between £5 and £100, in £5 increments.
- Once you’re happy with your limit and have read though the information, hit ‘Save’ to confirm your new limit.
Please note, if you set your own limit below £100 this limit will also apply to contactless Apple Pay or Google Pay™ transactions.
Can I choose my own contactless limit if I have a Visa debit card?
No, if you have a Visa debit card with us, you can’t choose your own contactless limit at the moment. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Can I set a contactless limit for my joint bank account?
Yes, you can. However, please note that a contactless limit will only apply to an individual debit card.
This means, if both joint account holders wish to have the same, or different, contactless payment limits, they will need to be set on each mobile app independently.
Can I set a contactless limit for my credit card?
No, we don’t currently offer functionality to set your own contactless limit for a credit card. We apologise for any inconvenience.
What happens if I attempt a contactless payment above my limit?
If you try to make a payment above either the standard contactless payment limit, or above a limit you set yourself in Mobile Banking, that payment will be declined.
Can I freeze contactless payments on my debit card completely?
Yes, you can completely freeze contactless payments for your debit card. Again, this feature can be found within ‘Card payment controls’ for your debit card in the mobile app.
