Why was my card declined at the gate when I tapped in at the start of my journey with Transport for London?

TfL calculate the final amount owed from your journey (s) at the end of the day, therefore you must ensure there are available funds in your account to cover any travel you are undertaking.

In the event that you try and travel and the journey cost exceeds the amount available in your account, you may be prevented from using the network until you revalidate your card. Revalidating your card can be done via the TfL website or by touching your card on a ticket gate when you have the available funds in your account and will result in your card being re-activated by TfL within 30mins.
