How have payments at the weekend changed?

The bank no longer process regular customer transactions whether that is credits in (Salary, Benefits) and / or payments / debits out (direct debits, standing orders) on a Saturday morning . These are now processed on a Monday morning (or next working day after a Bank Holiday) meaning your available balance at the weekend via ATMs, digital and mobile will be displayed differently.

Here’s what you need to know

This change means that you will have full access to all the available funds in your account at the weekend and you will need to ensure that you keep enough funds in your account for any payments that are due to debit your account on the Monday (or next working day after a Bank Holiday).

Payments into your account at the weekend (like your salary, pension or other regular income)

From 13 January 2018: Any regular payments due to be paid in to your account on a Monday (or next working day after a Bank Holiday) will only be available to you from the Monday (or next working day after a Bank Holiday) and not the Saturday as before. Just make sure there’s enough money in your account to cover you for any spending over the weekend.

Payments out of your account at the weekend (like direct debits and standing orders)

From 13 January 2018: Any payments due to be paid out of your account on a Monday will leave your account on the Monday (or next working day after a Bank Holiday), meaning this money will be available to you over the weekend.

This means that you can now spend / use all of your money over the weekend because payments such as direct debits / standing orders due to be paid on a Monday will no longer be processed on the Saturday. You will need to be aware of any payments such as direct debits / standing orders which are due to be paid out on the Monday and ensure that you have enough money in your account on the Monday to pay for these.

If you do not have enough money in your account for the debits/payments leaving your account on the Monday, you could see an increase in overdraft charges / unpaid item fees. Our mobile app and the text alerts service are a great way of keeping track on your available balance.

Why has the Bank changed the way that you process my payments out of my account over the weekend

The bank is making these changes to ensure you have access to all your money at the weekend.

This means that all regular payments (like direct debits and standing orders)that are due to be paid on a Monday will no longer show as leaving your account on a Saturday and will now show as leaving on the Monday (or next working day after a Bank Holiday). This will mean that all funds in your account at the weekend are available to you.

Why is the Bank making these changes so that my regular payments are not being handled the way they used to?
